As a business owner it is important that we have a healthy and successful business for years to come. For some, it is a constant struggle just to keep the lights on. When running a golf course business, you really need to have good golf course management in place. If you don’t then things can really go wrong fast.
How to manage a golf course properly?
Start with financials. If you have a good understanding of your financial position, then it is easy to see when you need to make improvements on the way things run in the business. You can keep track of your income and expenses and see if there are any areas in which you can save money.
You will need a good marketing plan. This includes marketing your course, booking tee times as well as encouraging people who live close to your business to use it more often. Making sure that you have enough golfers when they want to play is essential for a successful business.
Do you know where your revenue comes from? When things are going well in the business, it is easy to lose focus on areas that keep bringing in revenue for you. Having a detailed look at every part of the business will help you identify what stays and what goes off the list when done.
Creating a review is quite easy. The first step would be making an inventory of all activities in place in the business. It is a good idea to organize them into different categories for ease of reading. Make a list of all the activities that are important in the business and those that are not.
You will then need to make a grading system. This is where you rank activities according to their importance to your business. How much would it affect your income if you stopped doing them?
A simple way of creating a grading system is to decide how many “stars” each activity should get. You could also use numbers from one to five or even letters A, B and C.
This process will allow you to make conscious decisions about which practices need more attention and which can be left as they are for now.
